An implant replaces
the root of a missing tooth

Dental implant surgery involves placing the dental implant into the jawbone to serve as the root of the replacement tooth. The surgical process provides long-term stability while giving you the tooth replacement option most similar to a natural tooth.

We follow a consistent process with every surgical placement, from preparation before the operation to follow-up care after, and we explain each step along the way. Once your implant heals, we complete your implant restoration in the same office.

Types of dental implants
we place in Aventura

Dental implant surgery is not one-size-fits-all. The right approach depends on how many teeth are missing and the health of the surrounding bone. Dr. Oliver reviews each option with you at your consultation so the plan fits your mouth, not a template.

One tooth

Single tooth implant

One post and one crown replace the tooth without altering neighboring teeth.

Best for: One missing tooth
Replaces: Root and crown

A few teeth

Implant-supported bridge

Two or more implants anchor a fixed bridge, so healthy teeth are left alone.

Best for: A few missing teeth in a row
Replaces: Several teeth on fewer posts

Full arch

All-on-4

Four implants support a full set of fixed teeth with All-on-4 treatment, often in fewer surgical sites.

Best for: A full upper or lower arch
Replaces: All teeth in one arch

Most teeth

Implant-supported dentures

Implants snap or lock implant-supported dentures in place for a more stable, secure fit.

Best for: Most or all teeth missing
Replaces: A loose or removable denture

Limited bone

Mini dental implants

A narrower post that can sometimes avoid additional grafting.

Best for: Limited bone or smaller spaces
Replaces: Single teeth or denture support

Your consultation

Not sure which fits?

That is exactly what your consultation is for. We recommend the most conservative choice that gives you a lasting, natural-feeling result.

Most healthy adults missing a tooth
can get an implant

During your consultation we take X-rays and review your health to confirm your jaw is ready. You may be a strong candidate if you are missing one or more teeth, or expect to lose a tooth soon, and prefer a long-term replacement over a removable option.

Do I have enough jawbone?

You need enough bone to support an implant. Thin or lost bone does not automatically rule you out, because many patients qualify after a bone graft.

Do my gums need to be healthy?

Yes. Healthy gums and reasonably good overall health matter, so we may treat gum disease or decay before surgery.

Do my medications matter?

Tell us about any medications you take or conditions you have, as they may affect the outcome of the surgery and healing.

What does it take after surgery?

Good daily oral hygiene and attending your follow-up visits help your implant heal and last.

Your consultation answers
every question first

It is common to feel some anxiety before dental implant surgery. Understanding more about the preparation, surgery, and aftercare can help put you at ease, and we address your concerns at the initial consultation.

Our team examines your mouth and assesses your oral and physical health. We take X-rays to plan the placement of the implant and check whether the jawbone is ready to support it.

Placement takes one visit,
healing takes several months

1
Before surgery

Preparing your mouth

Your mouth needs to be healthy first. We may recommend bone grafting, gum disease treatment, or fillings, then give you instructions for the night before.

2
Surgery day

Implant placement

The surgeon makes a small incision in the gum, prepares the jawbone, and positions the implant post where the root of the natural tooth was.

3
Several months

Healing and fusing

The implant fuses with the surrounding bone through osseointegration. Your dentist may recommend a temporary tooth in the meantime.

4
Final visit

Abutment and new tooth

Once the implant is ready, we place the abutment and your custom artificial tooth.

Recovery is usually
a few days of mild soreness

Minor swelling, soreness, and bleeding of the gums are common after dental implant surgery. Avoid foods that may irritate the implant site, including hard, very hot or cold, or sugary foods, and choose water over soft drinks, tea, and coffee. We schedule check-up visits to make sure the implant heals well.

Risks to know about

The success rate for dental implant surgery is high, and complications are rare. The main ones are nerve damage or injury to an adjacent tooth, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, oral surgery raises the risk of infection. We give you detailed recovery instructions, which may include medication to prevent infection.

Bone loss is a leading cause of implant failure, and it can often be remedied. A bone graft adds several months to the process but greatly improves the chance of success.

FAQ

The procedure itself is done so you are comfortable, and most patients report less discomfort than they expected. Mild soreness or swelling for a few days afterward is normal and manageable with simple care.

Placement is a single appointment, but the implant needs several months to fuse with the bone before the final tooth is attached. The exact timeline depends on your healing and whether a graft is needed.

It depends on the bone and gums at the extraction site. In some cases an implant can be placed soon after the tooth is removed, and in others the area needs a few months to heal or a bone graft first. We check this at your consultation and plan the timing with you.

Many patients still qualify after a bone graft, which rebuilds the area so it can support an implant. We assess this at your consultation and explain whether it applies to you.

With good care, implants are a long-term solution and research shows survival rates above 90 percent even after a decade. Daily hygiene and regular check-ups help them last.

Yes. Depending on how many teeth are missing, options range from an implant-supported bridge to All-on-4 full-arch treatment or implant-supported dentures.

The cost depends on how many implants you need, whether a bone graft is needed first, and the type of tooth that goes on the implant. Implant surgery is cash-pay, and we offer CareCredit, Cherry financing, and an in-house membership plan for patients without insurance. We review your plan and fees at your consultation.
